The Head of Government, Clara Brugada, initiated the operation of 26 new electric units that will join the fleets of lines 2, 5, and 6 of the Metrobús. During a press conference, she emphasized her commitment to expanding this transportation system with the creation of two new routes, the extension of line 7, and the construction of 5 additional Cablebús lines.
"With the incorporation of these 26 new articulated electric buses that are 18 meters long, Metrobús will have a total of 826 units, including 141 electric ones, distributed across 7 lines," the official stated. This addition will result in a reduction in waiting times for users of the three mentioned lines, which daily transport 740 thousand people.
Brugada highlighted the importance of electromobility for the city and stressed the need to invest in sustainable public transport. In this regard, she mentioned that reducing carbon dioxide emissions is essential to combat climate change. The official stated: "We are polluting less with these transports, we are making a significant reduction in tons of carbon dioxide, and this contribution is very important."
Regarding future plans, the creation of Line 0 was announced, which will run along Circuito Interior, and Line 8 will extend from Alameda Oriente to Toreo along the Periférico Ring, classifying it as the most extensive Metrobús line in the city. There was also information about the extension of Line 7 by Ejército Nacional and the inclusion of more Metrobús units in the electromobility system.
Regarding the Cablebús, it was revealed that work will be done on the bidding for new lines for Tlalpan, Álvaro Obregón, Magdalena Contreras, and Milpa Alta. Additionally, the inauguration of two additional lines in Cuajimalpa and Xochimilco is planned. To complement these projects, efforts will be made to strengthen the Xochimilco Light Rail.
The new units will be allocated to lines 2, 5, and 6 of the Metrobús, each of which has a specific route that benefits various areas of Mexico City.
